Would you like to see some amazing mixer taps?

Show us the design of your bathroom – and we will tell who you are.

A bathroom is the Mecca of relaxation. This space sets the tone in the morning and calms you in anticipation of precious rest in the evening.

Your bathroom sets your mood, therefore it so important to harmonise the aesthetics of bathroom items.

Mixer bath taps are an important part of the interior, because they can be a central bright focus in a bathroom, and a simply harmonious complement to the interior. When choosing a mixer you must take into account your personal preferences in both design and ease of use.

2

There are many types of mixer taps: flush mounted where the technical elements of the mixer are hidden in the wall; external installation, when the technical elements of the mixer are visible; from the wall or from the washbasin; from the floor or ceiling. For example, the installation of internally-mounted mixer taps is most often found in contemporary -style interiors, where minimalism prevails with clean lines. Beautiful and practical design of a bathroom can include a mixer tap with thermostatic control, which will manage the water temperature regardless of the temperature of central or centralized water supply.

3

In addition, given the planned design of the bathroom, you can opt for brass or ceramic mixer taps, or Antonio Lupi  steel mixers. Most often, designers tend to choose brass mixers, since they are more durable and less prone to damage.

Villeroy & Boch

Villeroy&Boch, quality proven over time. This company has for over 250 years captivated its customers with its unique and distinctive décor. It is significant that this is the German “manufactory style”, considered to be from the oldest European manufacturer of sanitary ceramic ware and porcelain, and has been ordered by the last five Popes.

4

Style + environmental responsibility + x-tra service = Villeroy & Boch

Urban style, traditional classic, natural shapes – Villeroy & Boch offers a wide range of styles of mixer taps, offering functionality, elegance and unique design. Among the stylistic solutions: the Just Minimalist collection and Cult, the elegant luxury of Domicil, Square, and La Fleur, which can have handles of Swarowski crystal.

Selecting from the  iDEASDESIGN collection has come about by Villeroy & Boch designing in terms of both environmental impact and rational approach. The company has managed to reduce water consumption by using unique plumbing while not detracting from comfort. There is no doubt as to the quality of production and materials of Villeroy & Boch, which has served over so many years.

5

In addition, this unique service became x-tra service, thanks to which Villeroy & Boch can now customize products to any size, offering the option to apply a special coating that provides colour uniformity for all products, and eventually allows full refurbishment and restoration of mixer taps for up to 10 years after production ceases.

What heights plumbing can reach!

Designer mixer taps

Today are many fanciful and unusual approaches in the development of mixer designs. For example, for lovers of the classics there is available a mixer in the form of a swan from Cristal&Bronze. The creative collaboration between Mercedes Benz, Burno Sacco and Octopus Design gave birth to the Hansa Latrave masterpiece of mixer taps, which gives a rapid flow of water and a very “fast start up” analogous with the well-known brand of car. Luna mixer by Graff generally resembles a sabre or a pen, and the ThinkGeek mixer at night turns into a light fitting, changing colour depending on the temperature.
6 7 It would seem that even at a first glance, a minor element of an interior such as a mixer tap may surpriseyou, make you fall in love it, inspire you and be a highlight of your bathroom design. 8

PostHeaderIcon Learning to distinguish and choose a thermostatic mixer

Thermostatic mixer taps: types, benefits and choices

People are attracted by comfort in all its forms. For this purpose, a thermostat mixer is a device that controls water pressure level and the temperature of the water. These  devices have become very popular all over the world, but have appeared on the local market relatively recently, already having managed to attract attention.

What is a thermostatic mixer tap?

Ordinary mixers are dependent on the pressure and temperature in the plumbing. And designers have sought with thermostatic mixers to create a device that will not depend on the vagaries of your central or centralised heating. The result exceeds all expectations. These mixer taps are not just fit for purpose, but also have convenient operation and a beautiful appearance for the taps themselves, which is naturally important for the modern user.

The principle of operation of thermostatic mixer taps lies in a special valve, which reacts to changes in the water flow in the plumbing by simultaneously altering to another in accordance with your specified settings. For example, if the hot water pressure in the pipes is sharply reduced, the thermal valve will reduce the amount of cold water supplied to the mixing chamber. This very noticeable facet brings tangible benefits from the thermostatic taps in your bathroom, where manual temperature control is complicated by a significant difference in pressure within the plumbing for the hot and cold water supply. Controlled temperature of the water will provide you with comfort and tranquillity throughout a bathing experience. There are two types of such devices – the first works solely on a mechanical function and the second uses the interaction of mechanics and modern electronics.

1

Thermostatic mixer bath taps often have original designs

The device is able to memorize the settings you make and when you turn it on again, it delivers the water temperature you have previously specified. In most models there is a kill-switch, which automatically shuts off the delivery of too hot or too cold water. This means that the risk of scalding or being under icy jets of water is minimized. However, in cases when water is needed at extreme temperatures, for whatever reason, it can be set to temporarily shutdown the kill-switch.

Types of thermostatic mixer taps

Mechanical

In such devices the settings are made via the valves or handles. Therefore, mechanical models do not require a power supply. These are the most simple designs, with no additional features.

Electronic

Electronic devices have a rather complicated design but are made to be as easy to use as possible. They are characterised by the presence of a small LCD screen, which displays information about the temperature of the water. These devices are equipped with touch sensors or push-button controls. Some models are equipped with infrared sensors for convenience and therefore can be operated by remote control. These devices require an electricity supply, which can be provided by an AC adapter or batteries.

2

Mechanical mixers with temperature control. All settings are made using mechanical controls

Benefits of thermostatic mixer taps

  • Absolute safety. You can be sure that the thermostatic mixer will supply water at only the set temperature and will not allow extremes of hot water or cold water. This feature is especially useful for those who use a free-standing autonomous water heating system, for example, a central heating and water boiler. Such devices can heat water to 80°C, which can be considered potentially dangerous. In such cases, the presence of a thermostatic mixer eliminates the risk of scalding.
  • The design of the device is such that its operation does not depend on the temperature of the water flowing through the system or on sudden water pressure drops in the pipes. The mixer will, in any event except of course the complete cessation of water flow, provide water at exactly predetermined temperature and pressure. Any changes in the system and it reacts within 2 seconds. During this time it adapts to changing conditions in the desired manner, and continues to produce its programmed output.
  • Economy. The exact configuration set for the thermostatic mixer makes it easy to prevent unnecessary consumption of hot water. Total consumption is also reduced, since it is not necessary to run water in the process of temperature regulation. Most thermostatic mixer models provides a cost-effective mode of operation, designed for minimal resource consumption.

How to choose a mixer tap with thermostatic control

  1. Thermostatic mixer taps for showers are characterised by the absence a spout.
  1. Thermostatic mixer for baths can be in a standard version, which is equipped with a spout or a sprinklers with controls. Their shapes may be different, but in most cases they use a tubular construction, with controls located on the edges. There are both wall-mounted mixers of this type, and this built into the side of the bath.
  1. Thermostatic washbasin mixers. These are usually vertical mixer, which in addition to the spout, have no other features. There are two options – a thermostat mixer for a sink can be either wall-mounted or placed on a horizontal surface
  1. Thermostatic mixer taps for shower cabins in their true form have neither a spout or sprinklers. In fact, they solely comprise of a core, to which all the plumbing is then connected.
  1. Built-in wall thermostatic mixer taps are almost identical version of the mixers designed for showers. The difference is only in the presence of special containers for installation in a wall.

4

Mixers with concealed thermostats demand more complicated installation.

What mixer tap is the best choice for a washbasin, kitchen, cloakroom or bathroom?

When it comes to choosing a tap for a bathroom or a kitchen, it turns out that many people simply do not know the basic factors that need to be thought about. As a result of this, we can buy a product, which simply does not properly meet our requirements.

Another aspect to this is the quality of the purchased product, when we can sometimes be lazy. It can turn out that the “brilliant” or just nice-looking item you buy may not survive its guarantee  period, and perhaps not even last for a couple of months.
What kinds of mixers can we choose for a bathroom, kitchen sink or washbasin?

What kinds of mixers can we choose for a bathroom, kitchen sink or washbasin?

How not to get caught but buy exactly the mixer which you need for your house? This what we’re looking at in our article today.

Tip: you can purchase special “elbow taps” with a lever which has a much greater length than standard models.

Spout

Retail chains and showrooms generally offer products with a traditional spout, which is in the shape of a tube. At the same time, cascade models are flat and wide, and in appearance can be compared with a fountain. Gradually, such options are gaining popularity due to their unusual design.

A cascade-style tap made of glass and metal

Traditional models can raise the stakes as they alone have countless variations that will allow each consumer to choose a form that appeals.

  1. For shower cabins, baths and small washbasins a small, compact fixed spout is best suited.
  2. A swivel design is best suited for large washbasins, bathtubs and kitchen sinks.

A simple swivel design

Tip: if you want to increase the radius of the reach of the spout,  then you could look for designs

  1. Short-spout designs (up to 150 mm) – work well for small washbasins and shower cabinets in bathrooms.
  2. Universal options with an average spout length of up to 200 mm, are generally more suitable for the kitchen and for bathrooms. Here there can be a main stumbling block in the shape of the spout of the mixer and where you can install the tap:
  • showers and baths require vertical installation, although the shape of the “nose” can in these cases be bent, or S-shaped;
  • For the kitchen sink and washbasins you can generally install horizontally. Manufacturers offer various shapes for the spout, including straight, curved or right-angled.
  1. If the mixer spout length is 300 mm, it is perfect for both washbasins and baths.

Design

If you can find the right mixer, it will enable you to  radically change the appearance of the area next to the sink, frequently catching the eye.

What plays an especial role is not only the shape of the product, but also the material that its made from.

  1. Stainless steel – a reliable, durable, and low maintenance operation, fits perfectly into any interior. Such mixers are the most popular due to the fact that the price of such products is very affordable.

  1. . Bronze and brass models can last much longer but cost more to begin with.

If you’re not sure what mixer tap to choose, then brass can be a good choice

If  you’re not sure what mixer tap to choose, then brass can be a good choice

  1. One of the more interesting designs you can find includes ceramic models, and they often be can be stylized fountains. However, these mixers are fragile, and their cost can sometimes simply be forbidding.
  1. There are also mixers made of plastic and brass, topcoated in chrome. This adds to their practicality and hygiene value..
  1. In recent years bath taps have begun to appear with a spray coating of enamel. Such surfaces hide visible water droplets and fingerprints. The texture of such models can be either grainy or matt. Manufacturers now offer consumers taps to suit every taste – from classical simple options to designer specials. And, these are the most reliable mixer taps, depending  not only on what they are made, from but also on the internal .

Tip: when purchasing a tap, check to see whether it is supplied with an aerator, which can simultaneously mix water with air and filter out small foreign particles.

This device also allows you to save on water consumption and makes the water jet uniform and softer.

Recommendations

When choosing a mixer for the kitchen, is best to give preference to models with a high right-angled shape or a rounded shape, with a single lever to control the pressure and temperature of water.

  1. For the bathroom, buy a washbasin tap with two valves for better fine control of the water supply, and ashort spout. For a bath is better to buy a mixer with a 200 mm spout, with a switch for the shower. If the washbasin is located alongside the bath, buy a mixer with a 300 mm spout, so than the radius of its rotation will be greater, and the easier it will be to use.
  2. If you like to follow the latest trends, then at your service are designer models using the
  3. most fashionable shapes and colors.

8

Designer models instantly become the centre of attention

  1. If you want to create vintage style for your interior, choose bronze or brass taps.
  2. Treat yourself to that seeking to preserve and protect natural resources, by having taps with a display and a built-in thermostat.

Conclusion

Unless you really want to wander aimlessly around showrooms or hardware supermarkets, pre-select your favourite designs from manufacturers’ catalogues of their mixer taps. Find out as much as possible in advance exactly what it is right for you.

Don’t hurry to buy something: remember that you’re going to live with the item for several years. The videos in this article will make it easier for you to find more information.

PostHeaderIcon An advantage of mixers of design compared to conventional

Designer mixer taps- is it worth paying the extra?

Better is the worst enemy of the best – goes the saying. We forget this too often even though we want to make our kitchen perfect.

In our pursuit of the bluebird of happiness, money can fly off into the wind – but only provided all the elements of decor and plumbing will harmoniously fit into our interior.

Your kitchen can be designed in a rustic style or HI-TECH, in classic or avant-garde design, but whichever, mixer bath taps by no means play an unimportant role in the overall collection.

Mixer tap surfaces

Every (and we stress – every) high-quality mixer tap is made of either:

  1. Brass,
  2. Bronze or
  3. Stainless steel.

Advertising can say whatever it wants, but exclusive designer taps are made of the same alloys their low-cost counterparts. This does not mean that you can buy the cheapest tap you can find and expect it to work perfectly – the very cheapest products use silumin (cast aluminium and silicon alloy) that can not be called quality or strong, not even by a long stretch. But mid-priced products are no worse than premium mixers (the term “elite mixer” even sounds ridiculous).

They can look like this:

1

or this:

2

And here is a perfectly legitimate question: what do we get from a designer mixer tap, which we can not get from a usual high-quality tap? Maybe it lasts longer? Or runs different water? Let’s investigate.

Let’s immediately leave aside the work of the designer. Beauty is a very relative concept, and what one person is madly in love with, another person may find tasteless at best, and perhaps even just vulgar. We are talking here only about the technical characteristics and practical use of the mixer taps sold by big-name designers.

Mixer tap coatings

The coating performs two roles:

  • Protection of the body from the effects of aggressive environmental factors (water, household chemicals and other such pleasures of life) and
  • displaying the decorative value of the product.

In the budget market, the best options for mixer coatings are:

  1. chromе,
  2. steel
  3. nickel-chrome.

They all look good and last a long time.

Copper, enamel and ceramics all have their place in this scheme – but all of them have both advantages and disadvantages.

And the disadvantages can be carefully masked: copper has the property of darkening with age (and sometimes this can be even beautiful), while enamel and ceramics  can crack with rough handling (but where in a kitchen can you expect careful handling?).

Elite mixers can be decorated with gold plating. Or silver. Elegant? Oh yes! But manufacturers tend to keep silent about the content of gold in the coating composition. The fact is that our precious metal has one very interesting feature – it is soft. Therefore, even jewellery is usually not made of pure gold, but alloys containing 58.5% gold in the East or 9-carat or 14-carat in the West.

So low gold content in the coating  can even be a con: you allegedly pay for gold, but in fact for copper-gold alloy. A high content of precious metal leads to rapid abrasion and loss of overall appearance. Sad but true.

Control mechanisms

Taps use either levers or valves. The luxury mixer tap internal design does not differ from the same mechanisms used in inexpensive taps.

A ceramic cartridge in an expensive lever mixer also not fallen from the sky: it’s usually made in the same factory as the cartridges used in mid-range mixers.

Another thing is that cartridges for very cheap mechanisms will not be of the highest quality, so do not confuse gold with fool’s gold, and rush to buy a cheap mixer.

But what about exclusive taps with cascaded flow? They must have a completely different method of control, you may ask. The question is, of course, reasonable, but who will put such a product in their kitchen? It can become a decoration within the design, but in this realm of food and dishes it is just over-the-top.

Repairability

Everything breaks. Especially mixer taps. Mixers, especially with a lever mechanism are very sensitive to poor water and fail. You can throw them away and buy a new tap – usually from another manufacturer. It is possible to install a water purification and filtering system. And it is possible to repair your old tap.

It’s not heartbreaking to throw out an inexpensive tap, especially if it’s worked faithfully for five years. Just disconnect and discard. But the designer’s hand is raised. We’ll have to repair it. And when the time comes to buy spare parts to replace worn-out components, we can suddenly learn that the right parts, in principle, are not available.

When you look at the details of warranties and guarantees: most major manufacturers offer a guarantee on the mixer body from 5 to 10 years. But on the rubber washers and pads (and there are from 3 to 10 of these in each mixer),  only two years. So we either learn to repair the mixer (hire sensible plumbers and buy spare parts) or every 2 years buy a new kitchen tap.

We do not intend to discourage you from buying a designer mixer tap – it’s your decision only. We’re just preparing you to fight for its survival.

PostHeaderIcon Classical style bathrooms

We make out the bathroom in a classic style with

1

Bathroom in Classical Style

Classical style endures despite time and fashion. Regardless of the era and progress, Classic remains in demand in every country. This is the style that reaches the soul and inspires thought. Classic style bathrooms are superior to other styles, not only in decoration, but also in the convenience of use.

The only drawback of the classical style is that it can only be used in bathrooms where space allows. Small bath rooms will not be able to carry off its dignity and demonstrate the uniqueness of this style.

2

BATHROOM FURNITURE IN CLASSICAL STYLE

If you are fortunate enough to have a bathroom, where space is not a problem, the furniture need not be limited to cabinets. In this case you should install wall-mounted vertical or horizontal cabinets, decorated on both sides by columns. The furniture will be set off by fitted glass or mirrors with an edge pattern in gold.

The furniture can be chosen from any wood with silver or bronze handles of metal. Cabinets combined with mirrors, fitted with candle-like lighting, or wall lighting. They should have individual  switches to allow you to make the ambience bright or muted romantic.

Granite tops in any colour on the floor-standing cabinets will create a vintage-style atmosphere. By adding a small coffee table with wavy legs, softly-upholstered chairs with plush backs, will emphasize the individuality of your bathroom, and decorating the walls with old paintings and hangings will make the room elegant and graceful. A vintage set of furniture in expensive handmade wood will take you to the time of the Renaissance.

MIXER TAPS FOR CLASSICAL STYLE INTERIORS

Mixer taps to integrate into a classic style interior are best chosen to have two separate water controls, to regulate hot and cold water by classic-style taps bath. It does not matter whether these are mounted into the wall or reach from a washbasin. In local markets, they are called retro-mixers and are usually finished in natural tones of gold, silver, or bronze.

Designs using rounded shapes with no sharp angles and transitions are characteristic of classical style mixers. As for the toilet and bidet, the latest technologies and innovations are out of the question. If you prefer modern technology and gadgets, it is best to change the overall style since whereas a suspended toilet is appropriate to high-tech modern,it just isn’t for classical style.

3

SHOWER CABINS IN CLASSICAL STYLE

Мany people think that when choosing  classical style for your bathroom, you can forget about the shower cabin, but this is not correct. Shower cabinets  can use regular geometric shapes with no frills, clear, concise, and strict. Whether the shower glass door is round, square, or rectangular, if fitted with a wooden handle, it will merge well with the overall appearance. .

If your budget and space permit, a sauna made of natural wood with the appearance of beams made of logs, will not only make the room exclusive, but will add health and longevity.

Bathroom interior in classical style

The use of elegant lines, a large number of antique finishes, light fretwork, and merging of red, gold, and burgundy colours will give the room grandeur.  At the same time, this style should not be overcrowded with accessories. Furniture, sanitary ware, and accessories should each occupy a worthy place which does not violate the integrity of the harmony of the room.

3. Inspiring designs for bathroom tiles

Tile design for the bathroom inspired by nature is one of the main trends in 2016. Indeed, it can serve ideally as a decorative backdrop for even a simple suite and furniture. Here are some of the most up-to-date ideas for the tiling in your bathroom:

  • Drawings of flowers and trees, such as cherry blossom;
  • Tiles to reflect bamboo or wood;
  • Tiles to create a natural stone, limestone or marble effect;
  • Tiles produced with a metallic effect;

4. Warm and stylish floor design

Most people will agree that underfloor heating can significantly increase comfort while you’re in the bathroom. But here we’re looking at warm design, where we mean not only the warmth of touch, but also the visual aspect. Fashionable bathroom design in 2016 dictates that we use natural textures and wood shades for floor decor. What should we choose: parquet or floor tiles to imitate wood?

21 22 23

In 2016, designers have focused much of their attention on the design of the floor in bathrooms. So, today we are seeing increasingly frequently design highlighting the flooring. Bright walls and bright ceilings were the trends in recent years. Now the time has come to make floors the standout unique element!

24 25 26 27

5. Elegant shower cabins

The general trend for interior design is the natural desire to give the room a more open and liberating look. In the bathroom, this trend is reflected in the growing popularity of large and fully transparent shower cabins, decorated with beautiful tiles, with niches, seats and shelves, as well as chic but functional mixers.

Needless to say that in contrast to the shower boxes of the past, we need now to help the cabins in our bathrooms to look much more beautiful, coherent and spacious.

28 29 30 31 32

6. Freestanding baths

Stand-alone baths take up less space and have a much more aesthetic appearance than those attached to walls. Another reason for their great popularity in 2016 is a feeling of freedom and the relaxing bathing experience that they can give to their owners. Just look at these photos: 33 34 35 36

7. Designer bathroom lighting

Lighting in bathrooms has always played an influential role. For example, bright light makes the area look more spacious, while subdued lighting  creates a relaxed and romantic ambience. Bathroom design in 2016 is characterized by the use of especially beautiful light fittings, including luxurious chandeliers and brackets, as well as modern LED lighting, which can give your bathroom a most unusual atmosphere of luxury in a futuristic style.

37 38 39 40 41

8. Expressive textures and materials

Stone. Steel. Glass. Wood. Textiles. Beautiful textures are countless, and they can all be used in the bathroom. But in order to create a unique style and atmosphere for an interior, they are best used in contrast: matt  alongside high-gloss surfaces, warm and cold materials, smooth and textured items – bring together several opposing textures to create a truly unique and seductive design for your bathroom!

42 43 44 45 46

9. The most fashionable colour is grey

If we list the trends in bathroom design in 2016, then, of course, we cannot avoid the most popular colour in contemporary design. So, if the widely-acknowledged colour of the year for 2016 is Marsala, a naturally robust and earthy wine-red colour, then bathrooms become predominantly fitted out in grey. Surprisingly perhaps, since grey is nothing on its own. Firstly, it is neutral, allowing its use in all rooms and combined with any other tones. Secondly, it is timeless and suitable for creating a modern Hi-Tech style, as well as for luxury bathrooms. Finally and thirdly, it has been rarely used until this year and allows you to give your bathroom a fresh exclusive look. 47 48 49 50 51

So this is our list of the 9 most important trends in bathroom design for 2016. You can use it as a source for inspiration and ideas, whether to refurbish your bathroom, creating a new design from scratch, or simply to refresh some of the individual components and change the decor. Good luck and all the best!

PostHeaderIcon 5 great ideas to design a small bathroom

The original design for small bathrooms with photos!

Bath Taps on UK

A small house, flat or apartment is a problem familiar to many of us. Traditionally we have to augment often a very modest sized bathroom and place in it a suite, household chemicals, personal care products, and, as much as possible, a few shelves and storage items. Looking at photos of interiors with spacious bathrooms can cause some of us real despair, but this is not the end of the story. Knowing a few secrets, you can fit out a tiny bathroom such that its walls almost seem to expand and space to increase, helping it become more stylish and functional. And if you still think that this is impossible, think about the tips below, which may help you think the opposite.

1. Think carefully about the decor

The best friend of all small floor spaces is light colours. Bathrooms often may not have external natural light, and when that’s not available, it is better not to experiment with dark and saturated colours, keeping to tiles in light delicate shades. Walls are best decorated in white, light blue, pale green, or light grey tiles that are themselves small. This is even better if the tiles have a reflective property, or you use mirror tiles to give a feeling of spaciousness.

Another great option for a small bathroom is to use monochrome shades. So, if you choose a black and white and grey gamut, your bathroom will be as simple as possible – its walls will appear to move apart, increasing spaciousness. To make sure the interior is not boring, you can always add some bright shades: use somewhere tiles in contrasting colours, hang a bright picture if you can find room, or dilute the effect with artificial or natural houseplants.

Fitting out a small bathroom is better approached with cold colours, which bring a sense of freshness and do not constrain the room.

A good idea is to lay the floor tiles at an angle of 45 degrees. This creates an illusion of more space, and your modest few square feet will feel more comfortable. But you need to think about this before starting work, in that the quantity of tiles needed for this design will increase.

2. Mirrored Surfaces

Above we only mentioned mirror tiles, but not for nothing, since given that they reflect, they can appear to visually increase spaciousness, almost doubling the space available. If such design details are not in your plans, you will really need to find a place for a large mirror on the wall above the sink: it will not only be functional, but also significantly expand the space.

An alternative to a large mirror in the bathroom can be mirrors set into the walls to replace some of the tiles: this can help you save a little on materials at the same time as getting an interesting effect. Another approach is to place a large mirror on the wall, and use mirror tiles randomly instead of ordinary tiles.

Not only mirrored surfaces have the property of expanding space, but any surfaces that are glass or high-gloss. That is why if you want to create a feeling of more space in the bathroom, use a glass sink, and transparent glass doors for the shower, because they are not especially visible at first glance, seeming to dissolve into the interior of the bathroom, and do not clutter up space as do massive ceramic objects.

Glossy tiles, glossy suspended ceilings and other such surfaces all have the same properties. It is however important not to overdo reflective surfaces and transform the bathroom into a parody of a Hall of Mirrors. We need to find a middle ground, a state of harmony and not overwhelm the room.

 3. Design the ceiling properly

Use plasterboard and white paint for the ceiling – this is simple and not a bad option. But if resources permit and your interior design can incorporate them, let the ceiling be a mirror or imitate a stained-glass window, both of which will add spaciousness to your bathroom. The ideal is of course to install a suspended ceiling designed with well-planned illumination. In this case, all the bathroom becomes reflected in the ceiling, the ceiling itself becomes raised visually, and space in the bathroom appears to expand.

Visually raising the ceiling can be done with tiles with vertical patterns: stripes or patterns which are directed from the floor up, will contribute to this. But for the ceiling to be perceived properly, it is necessary to carefully use backlighting, as discussed below.

4.  Lighting

Lighting in a small bathroom plays a crucial role, and in the absence of windows and natural light, it is important to install sufficiently bright, even lighting to a small bathroom, to avoid it turning into something resembling a tight basement. For the most modest premises, perhaps you can only readily fit a ceiling light, which will illuminate the whole area. It’s best if washbasins and a mirror have available space for side lighting, which makes it more comfortable to wash, brush your teeth, shave, apply make-up, and so on.

In recent years, designers of small bathrooms have been using an interesting trick – low-level lighting. Light fittings are installed at floor level, give a special piquancy and elegance to the room, pushing the boundaries, or at least distracting from the main disadvantage of a bathroom when it’s just a small area.

 5.Interior styling

Among the multitude of different options for interior design, there are those which are more or less designed for small spaces, including bathrooms. So, the most advantageous to conquer a bathroom of just a few square metres can help greatly, and these include adopting the main points of minimalist, modernist style or Japanese style. They all involve the use of a minimum of objects, with their maximum simplicity combined with functionality. These styles put human comfort to the forefront, and are not pretentious, nor demanding expensive finishes and accessories.

IN SUMMARY

All these ways of fitting out a small bathroom can be used individually or combined. Some are effective only at the time of refurbishment, and some can be implemented right away, with just a little going a long way, by optimizing space and replacing a few elements. If you take into account some of the tips described above,  it is possible to obtain a functional, stylish and original bathroom even if it’s only 4 square metres.
